8.5.2019

Jim worked this morning on getting the upper driveway in good shape.  Then he called for a load of gravel; well, actually he tried a load of Eco-rubble.  It's a mixture of dust and broken up concrete and is quite a bit cheaper than the mixture he typically gets.  Since this is almost a first base for this area, it's a good time to try it out.  Jim is hoping to get a good enough base to help prevent washouts from rain.

When the driver came, he explained to Jim that this mixture is stickier and it is harder to drop spread it.  Jim would typically have him back up to where he wants it started and then the driver drops it as he goes down the hill.  But he couldn't do that with this mixture.  He had to start at the bottom and then drove very fast up the hill, dropping as he drove.

It worked out well except that it was very thick at the bottom where he started and didn't go up as far as Jim wanted.  So Jim had to get the Bobcat out and try to get it better distributed.

The driver also went over into the grass a bit so Jim spent time working on shoveling the mixture out of the edge of the grass.

He still has some work to do but it's looking really nice!

Jim also continued work on the dormer today.  He started installing the blocking at the end of the rafter tails...

Blocking work all completed.

Next Jim had to cut some angle to be placed at the sides of the dormer for use in attaching sheathing.

Both side angle pieces are done, which means basically the framing is done now!

Jim also put up one side of the trim board next to the overhang roof.

High 79/Low 53 - beautiful again!
