1.31.2023

Jim did more computer work this morning; he's busy starting to design the steel structure for the banquette seating!

In the shop, he did some sanding of the pole barn door panel...

Then put a coat of primer on the other side...

Glued the other rail onto the frame...

In the afternoon, Jim headed outside to clear the driveway.  We got about 2" of snow yesterday and he didn't want it to get packed down.

Starting to cut pieces of steel for the banquette frame...

1.30.2023

Jim had computer work this morning, including responding to an Amazon email wondering why we returned 3 treadmills!

In the shop, he got the panel cut for the pole barn man door...

Sanding it to the right thickness...

Trial fit...

Starting to put a coat of primer on the panel...

Got primer on the panel as well as the edges of the frame...

Jim did the milling for the dado cuts on the door pieces...

Cuts made...

Starting to glue it together...

Jim's new bearings came in the mail today so he was able to rebuild his trim router...

All rebuilt and working well, so he trimmed the Formica on the drawer bottoms...

Fitting the bottom piece into the drawer assembly...

All the drawers are finished now!

1.28.2023

This morning, Jim worked on installing all of the drawers in the bathroom cabinet - they look amazing!  He's waiting for another bearing to come in so that he can fix his trim router; then he'll trim the Formica so he can install the drawer bottoms...

Then he started working on sizing the wood pieces he glued for the pole barn door rails...

The beginning millwork is done for the rails and stiles...

1.27.2023

Today is Chocolate Cake Day so sharing cake is very important - hope everyone had some!  We started our day with Triple Chocolate Coffee Cake so we had ours!

Jim started assembling the drawers today...

Using the press to elegantly put together the dovetail connections...

Drawer assemblies all done!

Love the way the dovetails look...

Next was cutting the Formica and gluing it onto the drawer bottoms.  Then he clamped them together to dry...

Doing some measurements in preparation for attaching the cabinet to the wall...

Fastening it to the wall.  This cabinet also hides the access hole for the water and manifold connections.  If Jim ever needs to work there, he just has to unfasten the cabinet from the wall.  Perfect design!

1.26.2023

Jim was busy this morning prepping wood for more pole barn lean-to door pieces - planing...

Using the jointer...

Gluing up pieces for the rails...

Then it was onto painting the fronts of the drawers for the bathroom cabinet - an add another hour plus to clean the gun afterwards!

Continuing to do some 4Runner work now that he has the back hatch torn apart.  The back window has never worked so he was doing some investigative work on that.  He's making a wish list of parts to send for a quote from the Japanese parts company.

1.25.2023

Jim went out this morning before the next round of snow started to get more diesel fuel.  The forecast is for an additional 3-6" so he'll need some fuel for the Bobcat.  He also picked up some deliveries in the new box, including his new bearings and a spanner wrench to fix his trim router...

He made a solid top for the bathroom cabinet and attached that.  Then we'll be able to use it easier until he gets the Corian top made.  Here he's attaching the back piece to the cabinet...

He set it back in its place for now...

Another coat of polyurethane on the cabinet shelf...

1.24.2023

Mom and I had to leave early this morning for a doctor's appointment, then errands afterwards.  Jim had the driveway in fabulous shape - we had no issues going down or coming back home.  And NY does such an amazing job on their roads - the day after a 10" snow, you won't see a drop of snow on the roads, even back ones!

While we were gone, Jim worked in the shop - he's starting to turn his attention to making the pieces for the pole barn door.  Here are the beginnings of the stiles...

He also worked on the 4Runner's license plate assembly - he was able to fix things enough to get the other light bulb replaced with an LED.  He's still looking into a replacement option but now he'll be able to at least install this enough that he can drive the car if need be.

Jim did lots of sanding of drawer parts and pieces...

Starting to paint the back side of the drawer fronts gray...

Drying...

Another coat of polyurethane...

Jim did a little more snow removal today from where the snow fell off the roof in front of the garage door and the pole barn.  We are forecast for another winter storm starting tomorrow so he wanted it as clear as possible.  Check out the view from the living room windows - this snow was so beautiful and is still thick on the trees - gorgeous!
