5.5.2024

After all Jim's work on the cabinet, it was time to bring it up today!  First, he had to move out the little shelf unit I've been using to store laundry supplies...

The dryer came with a steam feature that required hooking it up to the water line.  When we were trying to get occupancy, it wasn't a priority and just never bubbled up on the priority list.  But since Jim had to move things out, it was time.  He bought a Y-valve to be able to send water to both the washer and dryer...

Of course, he has to work in tight spaces...

All done!  I'm anxious to try it out now.

Doing some cleanup behind the appliances...

Jim carefully wrapped the cabinet and put it on the two-wheeler to bring it upstairs...

Coming up the first flight...

And the second...

And into the house...

Manipulating the cabinet into position...

Moving it between the washer and dryer...

Bringing up the first drawer...

Beautiful...

The giant bottom drawer is next...

Finally the middle drawer...

Perfection!

Jim hasn't attached the cabinet to the wall yet; he needs to do that when he builds the upper cabinet.  Eventually there will be a Corian counter on top as well.  But I had so much fun filling up all the drawers!  It's going to be so nice to have things more neat and organized...

After cleaning up from all those jobs, Jim brought my car down off the lift and got the lug nuts all torqued - ready to get back on the road!

5.4.2024

All the drawers are fit into the cabinet and it looks beautiful!

Stapling the top...

Jim put my car on the lift to swap out my winter wheels for my summer ones...

While it was up on the lift, Jim put the other piece of the protective shield on...

All done and checking the air pressure...

Time for church...

5.3.2024

Jim trimmed the Formica on the drawer bottoms...

The bottom is in the middle drawer...

And the giant bottom drawer!

Fitting the top drawer into the cabinet...

Sharpening the chain saw blades...

Then we headed outside in the beautiful weather to just do a little tree trimming...

This tree top fell during that last heavy snowfall and it bent over some pine trees, so Jim did some trimming of branches...

Then he was able to lift it up enough that I could pull the pine trees out of the way.  He has some chain saw oil on order and we'll get the rest cleaned up when that comes in...

5.2.2024

Our gas delivery came this morning so we now have a full gas tank.  Jim will try and get it topped off in November, but historically speaking, this fill up would be enough to last us through next winter.

Jim put the strengthening corners on the top drawer today...

Jim had to get his head around all the upcoming steps for installing the hardware for the barn door.  Taking some measurements...

Figuring out placement for the top rail...

He'll have to take more siding off and he didn't want to start that today and have to leave things open, but he is comfortable with the procedure at this point.

The latch Jim ordered to keep the man door open came today...

Figuring out placement...

Starting to attach the hardware...

Perfect!  No more worries about the door flying open when it's windy - plus it looks really cool!

Jim took the front seat out of the 4Runner and then took a load of steel to the nearby recycling center.  Once he got home, he did some grass cutting and trimming to end the day.

5.1.2024

Of course, this is a national holiday in our household!  Happy May Day!

I ran to Home Depot this morning to pick up contact cement and then did some grocery errands.  Note - first time in the grocery store when I was allowed to push the cart - yay!

Jim cut the formica for the drawer bottoms and then rolled on the contact cement...

After time for it to set up, putting the formica on the bottom...

Rolling to get a good contact...

Once both drawer bottoms were finished, Jim clamped them together and put some heavy tubs on top just to make sure they dried flat...

He also put a coat of Rustoleum on the other side of the steel corners for the top drawer...

Jim welded an old C-clamp to a piece of steel angle to use as a clamp for sharpening his chain saw blades...

He has been using his own method to sharpen blades forever, but he decided to buy a Stihl chain-saw specific sharpening kit...

Sharpening...
