11.30.2019

Hope everyone had a safe and very Happy Thanksgiving!  We tucked our phones away, didn't turn on the computer, and just enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing holiday.  Kyle and Lauren came up on Thursday and ate turkey dinner with us.  We spent time on the property and walked around downtown Saratoga on Friday before they left Saturday morning to head back to the city.

Lauren's dog, Ruby, spent the holiday with us as well!

After they left, Jim headed back into the workshop, putting together the sister drawer cabinet...

 Putting the corner braces on...

The shell of this cabinet is all put together.  It's just going to stay in the workshop for now - Jim plans to work on the left side cabinetry next.

In preparation for next steps, Jim prepped and glued some maple pieces together for drawer fronts...

More glueing...

Jim had bought cherry wood decades ago and moved it here from Ohio.  He used it to make the drawer pieces in Ohio and is going to do the same thing here.  Here he's planing a thick piece of rough-sawn cherry...

He resawed these pieces - basically split them in half - when you open them, the grain matches which is so pretty...

11.27.2019

'Twas the day before Thanksgiving...

Jim worked in the wood shop finishing up my next cabinet...all assembled!

Starting to put on the corner braces to make sure everything stays square...

We rearranged the temporary cabinet and then Jim brought the new one up...

Attaching it to the wall - thankfully, our blocking was at the perfect spot!

Testing out how the Corian will fit on top of the cabinet and underneath the stove top - going to be so pretty!

But for now, a temporary top makes it usable!

Jim finally got his wheel dollies today - been a long wait for those.  He put them together but isn't putting the car on them yet.

11.26.2019

Jim ran into Corinth this morning for a haircut; when he got back, he had some cleanup work to do after bringing the Corian table up.  Which, by the way, we love and can't stop talking about every time we pass by!

He then had to take off all the tape from all the cabinet pieces and get ready for the next step - trying out our new drawer slides!

Beginning steps of putting the cabinet together!

It was a fairly warm day again, so Jim wanted to put the final door seal on the attic access door...

We also made a trip to the dump to get rid of some cardboard and metal with a stop at the can/bottle recycling center.  Always nice to start out clean again!

Such a beautiful sunset over the mountains...

11.25.2019

This was quite the exciting day - stay tuned!

I had to do some pre-Thanksgiving grocery shopping so I headed out this morning.  When I got home, Jim had painted all the cabinet edge pieces gray...

He also assembled a new desk chair that will go in my office.  However, we had to order some special non-marring casters so those will come in on Wednesday and then Jim can get it set up in my room.

It was fairly warm for this time of the year and considering we still have snow on the ground, so Jim wanted to spray off the undercarriage of the Bobcat.  Then he also gave the Mini a cleaning before it will be put away for the winter and he sprayed my car off as I was coming home!

Okay - here's the really exciting part!  The new sanding pads finally came in today so Jim was able to work on the Corian top.  Starting to sand...

What it looked like after the first pass....

Then he sanded in the opposite direction and it came out just perfectly!  It's a great semi-gloss finish which is just what we wanted and what they recommend for this color.  So beautiful!

Jim wasn't sure the two of us would be able to carry it up the stairs but we took it slow and we did it! Once it was on the landing, Jim was able to carry it up and down easier by himself...

Jim removed the temporary wood top and the base fit perfectly inside the Corian top...

Until Jim gets the bench seating made, he brought up our dining room chairs for us to use.  It's SO pretty - I just love it!

11.24.2019

Jim prepped all the cabinet pieces to get ready for priming...

Sanding...

Putting a coat of primer on...

All pieces primed!

While he had the primer out, Jim wanted to put a coat on the nail holes in the door frames...

The cord on the router had a nick in it - Jim had taped it but now it was time to repair it.  He cut that section off, rewired it, and put it all back together.  Hopefully the sanding pad he's waiting for will come in tomorrow and he can finish the Corian top!

11.23.2019

Jim worked on installing some window frame moldings today.  First the sides in the banquette area...

Then the top...

All done - beautiful!

Next, onto the casement window in the living room...

He just had enough molding for the sides...still so pretty!

The bathroom was next - finishing up the top...

Beautiful!

Jim's sanding the inside of the cabinet pieces...

The front is all taped and covered and the rest now has a coat of polyurethane on...

We are leaving for church early today because we are making a stop at Home Depot first.  Jim had bought one door slide to see how they would work - we're going to get more now!
