We had been holding off on putting all the seals on the auto bay attic access door thinking because we were deciding about paint color, but with the colder weather upon us, Jim decided to get it all sealed up and the latch put on. He got it all installed and it's a nice tight fit.
Then Jim started working on the Corian - he used his block sander and then used the palm sander to smooth out the seam. Worked beautifully - even on the back side, you can hardly see the seam. I'm so excited about all of this!
Next, Jim used his circular saw to cut off the excess length. Then he transferred the design of the table support piece onto the back side of the Corian. This way, he knows exact locations so that he can start building up the edges.
He used his cut-offs and other pieces to start laying out the edge buildup - this requires two additional thicknesses of Corian on the underside so that he can then put a finish edge all around the table top.
Then he started gluing the first layer down...
Flipping over the piece onto the back...
And making sure it's all flat and the glue is squished!
Then he has to put a ton of clamps on to hold it in place! Working on the last side...
All done! There was just one issue - Jim wanted to put small support pieces underneath the seam in the middle. He got the first one glued down and then ran out of the epoxy. No worries - he had bought two. However, when he went to get the second tube, the cap had come off during shipping and it had leaked out. So he couldn't put the rest of the middle support on; he'll have to call and order more epoxy tomorrow.
I had to go into Saratoga today and just on the one path I took, you could still see lots of remnants from the storm with trees down in people's yards, low wires over streets. They did a great job but we really did get hit hard. Many blessings that we had our generator and all was well on Angel!
