9.30.2021

Jim had to fast and do another blood test this morning before his physical next week.  I went with him and instead of doing date night, we did date breakfast afterwards!  We went to Cracker Barrel and had great pancakes and a wonderful time.

Once home and changed, Jim did some modification to the desk drawers to better align them...

In the shop, lots of sanding...

Starting to prime...

And a lot more priming!

We had to spend some time getting all the boxes, styrofoam and plastic sorted and organized from all the big products we've opened this week and getting it all down for the trash tomorrow.

With his time left, Jim started some work on the storage room.  He decided to do this corner a bit different so he made and attached some clip angles...

First piece of drywall!

First row done!

9.29.2021

Jim continued to work on shelf pieces - sanding these pieces...

Gluing the

Both top pieces gluing...

In the afternoon, Jim put on his IT hat.  He got the TV in my mom's room powered up and then connected to the Apple TV.  He still has set up to do but it looks great!

Jim is still not happy with our smoke detector set up - some are hardwired in and some are wireless but they all don't "talk" to each other.  He may upgrade but for now, he took the hallway one down and was able to get it connected to the phone app so he can control some things...

Now he can control how bright the nightlight feature is...

We got our new charcoal Nest thermostat - Jim got it all installed.  He will eventually put the other Nest one in the stairwell so he can control them all from one app.  Love the way it looks!

However, it required more set up and he had to use a different app than he has been using previously.  It's all working now - just in time because Jim now has it set in a heat mode for the first time this season.  It was in the 30s when we woke up this morning so it's time!

9.28.2021

I ran errands this morning - Jim was very busy putting the dado cuts in the sides of the assembled cabinet pieces.  Check out his drawing and you'll see all the measurements he had to make in order for all the shelves to fit in perfectly...

Plus, it was difficult just to get these pieces to fit on the saw perfectly because they are so long - to make the last cut, the board was to the window!

He had to go very slowly and cautiously - one mistake would cause all the work that went into this panel to be wasted.  But they turned out perfectly!

He had to make all those cuts on 4 different panels - it took him over 2 hours to do them.  Doing a trial fit...

Then it was back to assembling the desk for my mom.  There were so very many pieces - it took him over 4 hours to assemble it!  I told him I can't imagine how Mr. Joe Homeowner would fare trying to put it together.

He still has some adjustments to make but it looks good!

At the end of the day, he did some work on the storage room, cutting, predrilling and attaching the wood to the door frame...

9.27.2021

Jim took all the side panels out of the clamps this morning...

Gluing the side cove moulding on the top piece...

This top section is already attached and gluing...

Love the perfect mitered corner...

Working on the bottom shelf piece...

Now that the moulding is all done in my mom's room, time to do some finish work.  We bought a TV for the wall and wanted to find the right location.  Jim measured the TV and did some initial markings...

Then we added the dimensions with tape and Jim had to figure out where the studs were for the wall mount.  Of course, they weren't perfectly centered in our projected space but this will work great too...

Wall mount attached!

Hanging up the TV...

We also got a small desk for the room - yikes, just a few pieces of hardware!

Assembling...

It was time for Jim to hit the treadmill, so here's the end-of-the-day progress - everything looks great!

9.26.2021

Jim worked on assembling the side panels today...

All four assembled and in the gluing process!

In the afternoon, it was time to paint the bedroom moulding.  So first taping...

Jim has to be kind of a contortionist while painting this front wall...

Painting the shaded ice color on primer is basically painting white on white - Jim has to use his flashlight to make sure he gets everything painted...

Working on the door frame area...

Painting is all done - taking the tape off...

Everything looks beautiful!

High 65/Low 47 - nice!

9.25.2021

These are the tops of the side cabinet pieces - Jim made the rabbet cut so they will fit on top of the sides...

He made the first piece of cove moulding as well as the blocking piece at the back...

Gluing the moulding on...

Jim finished up some details on the moulding work in the bedroom...

Installing the rest of the moulding...

Moulding is all finished in this room!

Next, Jim put primer over all the nail holes in the door frame moulding as well as the baseboard moulding...

Once Jim got all the tools put away from this job, he used the rest of his time to do a little grass cutting before coming in to get ready for church.

High 68/Low 50 - beautiful!
