9.3.2021 - Recap!

It was a great visit with my mom - I was happy I could be there to help celebrate her 88th birthday!  We got to visit with my brother and his wife and their grandson, Leo, here holding the walking stick Brian made for him.  Jim and I also have walking sticks he made but ours are a bit bigger than Leo's!

I was also very happy to be back home after a week away.  Jim and I went out for nachos and beer last night to reconnect and chat about our respective weeks!

Jim got so much done while I was gone but he also had a ton of interruptions and unexpected issues so he's not as happy with the progress he made while I was gone.  I'll obviously miss most of what he got done but enough pictures to tell part of the story!

Gluing the front edge on the top of the back closet shelves...

He trial assembled the first back cabinet...

Jim needed to get more pine to continue woodworking.  He found a new mill closer than driving to Ghent, so he tried that out.  He was happy with what they had - it's nice to have another source.

After prepping the new wood, gluing up some to make more shelf pieces...

Jim finished all the shelf pieces - wow, there's a lot!

Started priming pieces for one shelf unit...

More priming...

Jim did painting on one shelf unit - it's now Shaded Ice to match the moulding....

One shelf unit assembled and the other one in various stages...

You can tell I'm back now since Jim is finally in a picture!  Doing some sanding...

Priming the other shelf pieces...

Jim also did more moulding work - starting to make the cap moulding cuts...

Cutting done...

Moulding pieces cut in half to make the cap moulding...

He also spent a lot of time in the metal shop finishing up the plastering.  The back wall is now skim coated...

Skim coating done in the metal shop!

Starting to skim coat in the wood shop - this back area is where the new storage room will go...

More skim coating done...

This turned into one of those issues, but Jim was finally able to get the new vacuum system for the wood shop delivered...

Brought it up the driveway and ready to go into the auto bay for assembly.

Starting to assemble.  The motor and collection chamber is very heavy - it's all steel.  The instructions even said that you need assistance because of how heavy it is.  Not having another set of hands, Jim used the engine hoist to help...

Working on assembly...

Continuing to assemble - this is going to be awesome!

The lawn mower was one of those unexpected issues.  Jim started cutting grass last week and the deck belt broke.  Apparently when the last bearing went, it made a small knick in the belt.  So he ordered a new one and had to wait for that to come in.   When it finally did come in, Jim installed it and started cutting grass.  The belt came off.  He put it on and off three different times before determining that it was defective.  He had to order a new one - it came in yesterday so he got it installed today.  He got quite a bit of grass cut - it was really long after all that time!

Speaking of issues, Jim had to spend a lot of time working out an issue with the car lift.  Jim noticed that the pump was leaking.  He spent hours troubleshooting it with a tech over many phone calls.  The company is sending him a new pump that Jim will have to install.  The hard part of that is that everything is full of oil, so it could be messy.  For all the trouble, they are also sending him a set of lift adaptors, which will be nice to use when lifting the 4Runner.

High 68/Low 53 - beautiful!
