Putting up the last one at the top!
Big thumbs up for great progress!
What's really amazing is that we ordered shingles years ago, had to buy them by the square, put shingles on the carriage house and then the pole barn before starting to finish up the stairwell. And check out how many shingles we have left - 3! How crazy is that? Of course, Jim says he planned it exactly that precise - ha!
We are short hip shingles though - Jim has been working with his roofing rep to see if he could get more ordered. Shipping is typically the issue - they come from Buffalo but typically in big quantities and on trucks. Jim only needs 6 bundles of hip shingles and didn't want to pay a huge shipping fee - he got them to ship it to the roofing company UPS, so it will be much cheaper than a freight charge and hopefully will come in sooner.
Once the main roof was all shingled, Jim did some siding preparation. He trimmed the house wrap and then used Zip tape over house wrap and copper flashing connection, ending just above where the shingles will cover.
Next was to work on the corner trim pieces. All of the siding and trim pieces for the dormer are going to be complicated because of all the angles.
Drip edge groove cut in and primer drying...
Painting the gray...
Jim spent some time at the end of the day smoothing out the driveway a bit - he's thinking of getting some fine gravel for the main driveway. Then he did quite a bit of grass cutting.
We spent a few minutes at the end of the day watching turkeys. So far, we've only seen one baby turkey. They were too far away to get a picture and the big turkeys made sure that the baby stayed on the edge of the woods. It was fun to watch them!
High 73/Low 48 - fabulous! |
