All of that came into play when Jim headed to the property this morning - the lock on the chain at the end of the driveway was frozen! He spent probably 20 minutes in the bitter cold trying to get it unthawed. He was just ready to give up and trudge up the hill to get his torch when he finally got it open. Definitely a cold start to his morning! After such cold nights, the building and everything in it is so very cold - working with frozen steel is hard to do! Even with a heater going, the winds outside and the frigid temperatures make for a cold work day inside too.
But he got some good work done in the morning - including getting the piece of angle cut and installed on the west wall side. He'll use that angle for attaching drywall.
Fastening down the wall plate...
Then the final piece...
Cutting the lower track...
Punching the holes in the lower track...
Fastening the track to the wall plate...
Next, Jim cut and put into place the top wall track. The master bedroom is going to have a regular ceiling at this point in the room and a vaulted ceiling over the rest of the room.
Putting up the first stud in this wall...
Attaching the studs at the bottom...
Putting up the last stud...
Figuring out the height of the studs for the vaulted part of the ceiling...
The first stud is cut and attached.
We stopped working a little early so that we could run a couple errands. We had to go into Lowe's and make some decisions on bathroom fixtures so that Jim can plan plumbing and the rest of the floor plan. We're pretty sold on the shower we want so the main decision is about the sink. We have our choices narrowed down to a pedestal sink and a smaller vanity - Jim will look at the specs for each and see what will work better. It's lots of fun to be exploring these options!
We ended up our evening with a rare night out and used our anniversary gift card to Applebee's - a fun treat at the end of the day!
Stay warm and safe, everyone!
