12.1.2016

Much to Jim's dismay, we had to start the day by going to the dentist for our scheduled checkups.  All went well but it was a bit of a later start to the work day.

Jim first worked on the mounting boards for the conduit that will bring the permanent power into the building.  First he put up the plywood backing board and then the first piece of trim board.

A bit of caulk next...

...and then the next piece of trim.

A final bead of caulk on the joint and that task is done for the day.

The weather forecast sounded much warmer and brighter than it turned out to be.  In fact, even though the temperatures were in the 40s, there was a brisk wind that brought it down to the low 30s.  Add some periods of drizzle to the mix and it wasn't the best day to work outside.  Plus, it had rained overnight so everything was wet - definitely a safety issue on the roof.  Plus it makes marking lines really tough even when the membrane is dried off!

Jim persevered through the drizzles and started putting up the shingles.

With the top of the roof, there are so many cuts to be made.  Unfortunately, no more climbing in and out of the window, so now Jim has to go up and down the roof and scaffolding each time.

Making good progress...

Jim put another roof jack on and continued installing shingles.  Getting closer to the top...

Last row of shingles!

Then it was time to work on the hip shingles...

As the sun slips behind the mountains, Jim is almost to the top of the hip.

Last hip shingle...

It was pretty dark by the time we got done so it's kind of hard to see the roof.  But it's all shingled except for the ridge!  That's going to take a bit of work and definitely need daylight for that job.  But we're thrilled that this roof is almost done!
