12.14.2016

This morning was a divide and conquer morning.  We had a coupon for a free oil change and Jim's winter 4Runner needed one, so I took the car in for that this morning.

Meanwhile, Jim headed out to the property and worked on more steel in the apartment.  He made and installed blocking above the door frame in the bathroom.  Then he was able to attach the ceiling joist.

We're getting so much steel in the apartment that it's difficult to portray what things really look like in pictures - reminds me of trying to take pictures of all the shoring that Jim put up to hold up the deck before the concrete pour!  But this picture shows what the ceiling joists above the bathroom and over to the laundry room look like.

Next Jim put up the top track for the bathroom wall - the other side of the double wall encasing the box beam rafter.

Before he totally fastened the track down, he wanted to put the ceiling joist up that goes on top of the track.  The steel was already in the apartment, so Jim used his grinder to cut it instead of dragging it down the stairs to the shop.

Attaching a clip angle to the other side...

Getting ready to put it in place...

All in place on top of the track.

Once the joist was fastened down to the track and the box rafter, Jim started cutting and installing the studs.

All the studs are in place!  Jim even let me fasten the screws on the bottom (tough work going through the steel) - I could put one in for every four or five of Jim's!

Jim still had to do all the screws on the back side of each stud, but that's really difficult work and he wanted to move on to the next task - figuring out the first bedroom wall!  After we chalked the lines for the wall, Jim got out the laser level to mark the location on the ceiling joists.

Up on the scaffolding, marking the joists.

We did all we could - Jim needs to get the printout from his computer drawings at home.  But it was a good start and we can do more on that wall tomorrow.

After I left, Jim stayed and did all the difficult fastening on the bathroom wall - including through the box beam rafter.  So that double wall is all done!
