6.22.2019 - Door hung and concrete cut!

We went out in the morning to walk on the concrete and check it out - it's awesome!

Jim had put some plastic down last night underneath the bird nest - good thing - ugh!

Since the shelf for the microwave cabinet is done, Jim installed it today.  Amazing how he made the shelf to fit around the venting!

He found a collar that he is going to order from Supply House, but he's waiting til he has a bigger order.  So he put some temporary tape on the vent pipe so that I can use it.

We're happy with the trim color so the next project was to permanently hang the door.  First he attached the hardware...

Then he carefully brought up the door through the stairwell...

And into the room...

Setting it on the hinges and putting the pins in...

To make hanging the door easier, he first uses only the top and bottom hinges.  Once they are in position, he's able to put the third hinge on.

Putting on the latch mechanism...

And the door handle...

So gorgeous!  I absolutely love the way it looks!

So that the door handle doesn't hit the wall, next step was to put the door stop on the floor.  Drilling through the bamboo is tough, plus Jim has to make sure it doesn't shatter.  He gradually opens the size of the hole...

All done!

Today was also the day to cut the concrete.  First we chalked the lines...

He lines up a 10' board with our chalk line to help him cut - I stood on one end to stabilize it.  He first tried cutting without water but it created so much dust.

Then he switched to using water and it was great.  The only problem was when the crimp on the hose came loose and sprayed water everywhere!  Jim had to find a new clamp and then he could press on.  This is not easy - the water makes it hard to see where you are cutting plus it's a heavy saw.

He etched all the lines with the saw first and then he went back and made the cuts deeper.

Hard at work...

The home stretch...

All done - came out great!  However, Jim has decided that he wants to make one more cut from the other post so we'll do that tomorrow.

Squeegeeing off some of the water so that it will dry better so we can chalk the other line tomorrow.

Great day - off to church now!
