Jim did some woodworking this morning - he got wood ready and started making the shelf to go in the microwave cabinet.

After lunch, he spent some time on the box truck.  He wanted to move it so that he could cut grass in that area next time, but it wouldn't start.  He charged up one of the batteries and then spent some time cleaning up the contacts.  It started and he moved it into our turn around area.  He wants to get this listed on Craigslist soon, but he'll probably have to get it inspected and licensed again first.

Next he started making some preparations for concrete.  We are on the schedule for Thursday; however, it would figure that there is rain in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday so we'll see.  But Jim needs to be ready - the last step is to make the stop at the end of the pole barn garage door opening.  He got a board and leveled it, and then screwed it into the skirt of the pole barn - that way it can be easily removed.

Then added another board for strength, using double-headed nails for easy removal.

All done...

But for now, he'll take it off and put it back the night before the pour.

After that job, he made a quick form for the pad that would go underneath the house generator.  That helped us decide on placement - we're going to line it up with the back of the stairwell.  It has to be 10' away from the gas line and this fits perfectly.  We have to plan on fairly easy access to the generator in the winter under snow cover.

His next job was to start working on the soffit and flashing.  This job has been around since last year when winter attacked us early.  He first nailed J channel to the bottom of the rater tail, it will support the front side of the soffit.  Next, the F channel was positioned against the pole barn wall and will support the backside of the soffit.  The pole barn backside is nearly done but he will probably wait until the soffit comes in (maybe this week?) to make sure the design works.

He had to design a special piece of transition flashing to go from the F channel to over the top of the siding so he came up with this piece (kind of hard to see but you can see where his hand is holding up the flashing!).

At the end of the day, he did some trimming to keep up with the undergrowth.
High 72/Low 59 - nice!
