So he worked more on organizing in the basement - we got his workbench moved over into the auto bay. Then he unloaded some more flooring into the carriage house.
Finally, the guy arrived with his truck and big trailer around 1:00. We were thrilled to sell it!
Jim spent time this morning getting the trim boards ready for the front portion of the west wall. Jim makes nice beveled cuts so that the two pieces join together perfectly. He put some primer over the cut edges.
Predrilling the holes...
With his bracket in place, Jim gets the piece outside. Now Jim just has to work on the planks and you can see how high up it is...this side feels higher because the terrain really drops.
Thankfully he got it into place and used his Bessie clamps to hold it securely.
Always caulking the joints first for a watertight seal...
Then fastening it into place...
The outside view - now Jim is on a ladder on the planks!
Cutting the next piece...
Jim primed the cut ends of the next piece and while they dried, he turned his attention to the front side. He put up the next piece of backing board...
He decided to make another piece of flashing to go over this last backing board just to make sure no water will be accumulating at the end of this piece.
Fastening the flashing...
Paint's dry so time to put the next piece up. Again, this Miratek is heavy but also very flexible, so it's difficult to handle.
But it's in place and Jim is clamping it down.
Starting to fasten...
I painted more trim boards today and Jim filled up a small paint can with our exterior cover. He then touched up all the nail heads, joints and primer on this side and the front. We are just thrilled that the trim boards are up and finished on this side - it was another big challenge!
Putting up the next piece of backing...
And the last piece on this side...
End-of-the-day...you can see all three sections we worked on - west wall has trim boards up, front trim boards all touched up with paint, and backing boards on front gable. A great day!
