5.10.2016

Jim had to do some project management work this morning.  We were on the fence about ordering snow stops for over the garage doors.  We finally decided to go ahead and order them - they have to be put on as you are putting the shingles on so getting them quickly was a factor too.  Jim found some cool copper ones and hopefully they will be in maybe by the end of the week.

Then he went and picked up another storage cabinet from the used furniture store - we had stopped in to look at it last week.

His last errand was to order a door sill for the double door entry into the carriage house.  You would never think door sills would be so complicated but it was really difficult to find the right one that would keep water out.  And you would definitely never think that a door sill would be so expensive - but at least we have a good one that should work well.

Once he got back to the carriage house, he unloaded the cabinet and got a little more organization done.

We emptied out another cabinet and Jim moved it on top of another cabinet to make a nice cluster of cabinets in the shop.

Then it was time to get things ready for the afternoon's job - the big goal was to get the rake boards on the west wall.  This is a job that Jim has been dreading for awhile.

I got busy marking and predrilling the holes in the plywood backing boards.

This was hilarious - after I got all 4 of these boards drilled (2 holes every 16" so there were quite a few holes), Jim went to use the drill and he said - you had it on reverse!  Ha - shows you how much I know!  It worked fine - I had no issues drilling!  But it didn't do such a good job on the drill bit apparently - Jim used his trusty Drill Doctor to sharpen it up a bit!

I also painted two more rake boards so we should have enough for the front side of this wall while Jim made another piece of drip edge.

Time to install...

Jim decided to take out the window in the apartment - this way he could climb in and out without having to go up and down the scaffolding so much.  Plus I could stay in the apartment and hand him out the ladder, tools, etc., when he needed them.

Next piece...

Last piece of the plywood...

Then Jim got the rake boards fastened on.  He also had to get up on the roof to take off the old drip edge.

Getting the last piece of rake board cut and drilled...

Using a ladder up on top of the scaffolding to attach the last piece!  It sure is a long way up from the ground!

End-of-the-day shot - Jim got the drip edge guides attached all the way up the side and the window put back in.

Once I got home, I got some good news from the doctor - my biopsy was benign so a very good day all the way around!  Thanks to all for your support and concern!
