5.22.2016 - First Trim Board!

Sunday's are short days and we thought it might be even shorter because the forecast was for rain.  But we only had a very few sprinkles for a couple minutes at one point.

Jim worked on wiring up the last light in the center bank of lights this morning.

Then it was time for the next challenge - trim board.  This Miratek product is heavy but the pieces are very flexible - so it's very hard to carry let alone try to get it attached so high up in the air.

He first cut the little side piece.  The trim boards have to tuck underneath the drip edge.  Plus, Jim caulked the end piece to make sure to keep out any paths of water.  Of course, as always, there was a learning curve.  He did drill holes first but the holes weren't big enough plus there was no way he could clamp this first piece.  So he had to bring it back inside (caulk all over the side!) and redrill.

But he got it done and attached, which allowed him to take a measurement for the front trim board.

Cutting the trim board to size...

This longer piece required a lot more thought and preparation.  Jim made a bracket to attach midway to help support the board while he got it into place.

I helped Jim get the big piece out the apartment window and then he carried it around the front - not easy in itself.

Whew...all in place!

Starting to drill and fasten.  Jim bought special finish screws for this job - they have a very small head on them.  Once he was done with all the fasteners, he put some caulk over each of the screw heads - later on he'll go back and touch up the paint.

The trim board really looks nice - little hard to tell in this picture because of the scaffolding.

Before Jim had to leave, he got the next piece of trim board cut - this one will be even tougher because it will go on the west side.
