Jim made the next piece of valley flashing this morning...

...along with more clips for the flashing.

Then a good portion of the day was devoted to scaffolding work - and this was really tough scaffolding work.  Because of the overhang section on the corner of the auto bay roof and house, Jim can't get real close to the building.  You can see he had to rob a lot of the piece parts from other scaffolding towers - including taking down the rest of the tower in the back - to get this new tower built.  But then it was a matter of working on it - Jim needs to be able to get tools over to that area and have it stable to work from.

This made my heart hurt to watch - such a tall tower with nothing underneath!  Jim put planks between these two towers - and then put toe boards underneath to join them together.  However, because it's such a long space to bridge, he can't put up a safety rail or have any stability when crossing this area.  Plus, it's really bouncy - he later put clamps to hold things more securely as well as nails in the edges of the platform to keep it stable.

Next, Jim had to bring up more planks and get them to bridge between the scaffolding tower and the toe board connections on the auto bay roof.

Putting the next plank in place...

Later, Jim fastened another plank behind the big space between the towers - that way he has something to grab onto if, God forbid, he should slip.

Then he started working on taking off the old drip edge - since it already had membrane on, he has to cut that in such a way that he can later lap it over the new membrane.

Time to make the new drip edge for the bottom...

Installing the drip edge.  I stayed in the apartment space again to be able to get tools that Jim needed and pass them out the window.

Fastening down the piece of drip edge...

Putting new membrane on...

The finished view from up on the scaffolding!  Everything is back in place.

Next, time to put the fascia backing pieces on the ends of the rafters.

Putting the last piece of fascia backing on the front.  Jim continued working around the side to finish the ends.

Around 4:00, I left to go get some stain that was on sale at a hardware store in Saratoga plus do a couple errands.  Jim finished up more details so he is basically ready to work on the west wall rake boards.  Then he spent a little time cutting the grass.  Definitely a full day - figuring out how to do the scaffolding and setting it up was huge.  Jim feels pretty comfortable with the configuration so that's what's important moving forward.
