Hope everyone had a happy and safe Labor Day!  Everyday is kind of Labor Day around here, but we enjoy the journey!

Jim had some monthly house jobs to do this morning and then he got his tools and equipment outside.   Then he moved the scaffolding out of the pavilion area and took down the last brace...

Now that the main and secondary beams are in place, the next step is to peg the joints.  Jim wants to make sure that every post is completely square and plumb and all the joints are tight.  He put up a winching strap between the two posts on the end beam and was coming up with the best way to be able to move the front post's position just a tad to straighten it.

Checking to see how plumb the post is...

Continuing to work on straightening...

This back section is perfectly tight - Jim decided to put his first peg back here.  He got out his squaring block and attached it to the peg area so that he could drill very precisely...

He put his auger bit on his right-angle drill and started drilling...

Once he got far enough, he removed the block and continued drilling...

Putting in the first peg!

Look how tight and perfect this corner joint is!

Using the Japanese saw to cut the peg off cleanly...

All done - looks so cool!  This peg went through the beam, the tenon of the post, and into the secondary beam.

We didn't have much time left before Jim had to run, so we decided to set up another section of scaffolding.  Jim is going to set the roof rafters here to begin working on them as well.
