Today turned out to be another beautiful day - the forecast had called for rain this afternoon with much cooler temps. But the rain never appeared and the sun warmed things up more than they were predicting. Jim had planned to do an all-day insulation day but changed his plans with the weather.
This morning he tackled another of those projects that seemed a bit daunting - the outside security lights. In the back, we want lighting more for subtle illumination of the woods so Jim wanted them about 8' off the ground. As always, if this was a wood structure, mounting an outside box would be easy. Not so much with steel. And drilling through the masonry siding is not easy either. We wanted the box mounted right on the trim board - however, that sits right on the side of a steel stud. But Jim got the whole drilled right on the stud flange.
Then he brought the wires out...
He had to make a conduit adaptor for the box where the wires would pass through the steel...
Ta da! All mounted and ready for a light!
Now that the wiring is done on the inside, Jim was able to finish insulating that corner of the bathroom...
He continued working and reached the door in the wood shop! So he's basically done with his first pass. The plan is to now go back and tackle all the insulation details.
Since the weather allowed us to, we headed outside in the afternoon. Jim first pre-drilled all the smaller cut pieces for the top row.
Installing the siding pieces...
Last piece of siding on this part of the wall!
Then Jim took off the temporary freeze board underneath the soffit.
And attached the permanent freeze board!
There are still lots of details to work out and none of them are easy - top of the overhang, attaching soffit - all of that has to be done but it's tricky with no room to work. Meanwhile, Jim resumed work on the other side of the overhang, continuing on with step flashing and roof shingles.
That side is all done now!
Time to work on the hip shingles...
Hip shingles finished so the overhang roof is done!
More tricky flashing...Jim had to make another piece of copper flashing for the transition of the step flashing and the edge flashing.
Then he made the edge flashing and attached it...
Figuring out the tricky angles for the siding on this section...
Then I got the pieces all primed...
