Jim continued working furnace plumbing today...here he's working on putting all 4 branches of the supply manifold in the proper placement.

Wow - check this out!  That supply manifold is all soldered and the shutoff valves and pipes leading to the pumps are all in place!

Jim is explaining to me how the pumps will attach...

Then I stuck around to watch him do all the steps required to get a piece of pipe cut and soldered.  First - he cuts it using a special tool.  This one is really meant for black pipe and doesn't do a great job with the copper - he has a different tool on its way.

Then he uses another special tool to ream out the inside so that there are no burrs...

Trying it out for size.  He has another elbow on order also so he won't be able to complete this entire run yet.  That's the problem with plumbing - Jim has ordered so very many parts and pieces but you never know exactly what you will need until you start putting things together.

Cleaning out the inside with a special brush...

Putting solder paste on both sides...

Fitting the joints together...

Heating it...

Putting the solder on...

The finished product!  Then he has to repeat that procedure so very many times during the day as you can see!

The first pump is mounted on the line!

It was so exciting to see the process and to really see all this coming together!
