It was a crazy -15 actual temperature when we woke up this morning, with the wind chill about -25! Because of the temps, Jim decided to stay home and catch up on desk work in the morning before heading out after lunch. Again, we are grateful that the car started after sitting in those temperatures as well as the carriage house held its own.
Jim decided to dedicate the day to figuring out more of the furnace system. There are so many parts and pieces that it's going to be a challenge to get everything to fit well on our wall space.
He used PVC pipe to extend the air intake vent up the vertical chase in the stairwell...
...and then across the ceiling. He had to make clip angles and steel blocking that he will eventually use for strapping the pipe. But now he has to figure out exactly where he wants to take the pipe outside. Unfortunately, it's probably going to interfere with some of the siding that's already on the back of the stairwell. Jim is still pondering the best approach. Besides, there is over 2' of snow back there so it will be a major effort when it's time to go back there and work. He'll wait until he has the exhaust vent location figured out and ready to go outside as well.
He started putting together more copper plumbing pieces too. This will bring water from the furnace to the pumps. We will have 3 separate pumps on this section and there will be shut-off valves before and after the pump just in case something needs to be replaced.
