1.12.2018

Another crazy weather day - it got into the 50s but was drizzly with just incredible fog all day long.  We were anxious to see how the stairwell fared overnight - everything seemed to be in good shape, thank goodness.

Jim worked this morning on putting up drywall in the utility area.  At this point, he thinks he will attach the pumps here.

Since he will be attaching plywood to use to attach all the pump hardware, he decided to go ahead and tape the drywall while it was exposed.

Then he did his first soldering of the copper plumbing joints!

Soldering the next pieces on...

Doing the solder joints on this next area was tough - it was attached to a factory-soldered piece, so Jim had to be careful not to get any heat on those joints.  He used his heat shield as well as wrapped a wet piece of cloth around the other joint to help dissipate any heat.

Jim next had to address the broken window situation in the apartment.  It appeared to implode inwards so we still have to investigate warranties.

However, we luckily had the exact window as an extra, so Jim was able to take it apart and attach the new top window.

Sure would like to know what caused this!

Then Jim worked on plastering.  While it was still warm, he wanted to do some corner bead work since those joints are thicker and take longer to dry.

Jim had placed an order at Lowe's that included plywood that he needs to continue mounting furnace hardware in the utility room.  So he took off at the end of the day and headed there.  However, he encountered a horrible driving situation on his way home.  The fog was incredible all day long but coming home on the mountain road in the dark was terrible.  Jim said he was going about 10 mph and couldn't see the road at all - so scary!  Plus, he had to drop off the plywood back at the carriage house - that involved backing up the upper driveway in the dark and fog!  We were both so glad and grateful when he got home safely!

High 56/Low 19 - very foggy!
