10.9.2016 - Big Day!

Since Jim started working on the 4Runner after I left, I got to see his progress when I arrived.  This will be one of those jobs that he fits in at the end of the day but it's nice to get it started.

Okay - so Jim did some last look touch-ups on the dormer wall.

Doing a little touch-up painting on the soffit - what he wanted to get done yesterday when an ill-timed shower popped up at the end of the work day.

But then...drumroll, please...roof jacks came down from the roof by the dormer wall!  How amazing does that look?

Dismantling scaffolding by yourself when it is up so high is tough work no matter how excited you are that it's coming down.

All the scaffolding is down on the west wall tower!  Roof jacks have to remain until Jim can finish putting roof shingles on, but this back corner looks so good!!

But now it's time for a switch in focus to the front of the house.  We dismantled the outside painting station so that Jim could get the Bobcat over to flatten out this area for setting up scaffolding.

Of course, a little hand shoveling always involved.

Check this out...look how close the scaffolding is to the overhang - just a bare fraction of an inch away.  That's because this is going to be very difficult - the scaffolding has to be 2 feet away from the wall because of the overhang so now Jim will have to reach out over that space to attach shingles.  I shudder to think about it.

Jim figured out the angle for the head wall flashing between the overhang and the side of the house.  This will need to be out of copper - Jim needs to order another roll.

This is our short day - I got another 100 or so shingles painted inside.  Jim was still setting up planks and bringing around more scaffolding pieces when I left.

But this was a major accomplishment day - being done with all that tedious work on that back corner feels wonderful.  That is the worst corner because it's built into the slope and feels so very high with the rest of the terrain dropping off sharply.
