10.18.2016

Ahh...the best laid plans.  Jim had brought the truck home last night so that he could go to the roofing company first thing and pick up his order of trim boards and soffit.  The trim boards are the most important right now - Jim wanted to get them painted while the weather is still nice and get window trim made.

All of that went well...until he got home and saw that the trim boards were the wrong thickness!  They had loaded everything in the back of the truck and everything was wrapped - once Jim unwrapped them at home, he saw the mistake.  So he called the company and they had to reorder.  A big set back, although Jim was already coming up with alternate plans.

Meanwhile, he pressed on installing shingles while I got busy painting more for him to install!

Then we had a crazy ladybug infestation today!  Apparently the warm weather made them come out - you can see in the picture below how they were all over the place.  They were all over Jim too - as he's standing on scaffolding 25 feet in the air, they are crawling over his face, underneath his glasses, and under his shirt...creepy!

Jim carried the rows over so that he could work on getting the other shoulder flashing and special shingles installed.

Mid-afternoon, we carried the soffit pieces from the truck into the shop where Jim cut them in half.  They are way too long and flimsy for Jim to be able to install himself - cutting them in half makes for a more manageable size.

Then we quickly set up some scaffolding to work on and I painted the soffit pieces.  This was a big painting day - I got over 400 shingles painted!  However, there was a possibility of rain tonight so once the outside pieces dried, I carried all 200 or so of them back inside and set them out so they would continue to cure before stacking them.

It's so exciting to be above the shoulder areas and almost to the windows!

Jim had to move his planks up higher so that he could continue to work.

Jim had some bigger trim boards that he decided to cut down and make the window trim.  Plus, he had window trim made for the other window on the west wall - he'll cut that down and use it for the other front window.  That way he can continue working in this area while the correct size boards are being ordered.  Installing one side...

...and the other.

Time for more scaffolding.  Rather than carry scaffolding pieces all the way up this giant tower, Jim brought up 3' sections and we took them out the window.

Doing some touch-up painting at the end of the day...
