4.17.2016

Sundays are always shortened days but Jim wasted no time getting busy this morning.  He added another level to the scaffolding first thing and then spent a lot of time designing and figuring out how he wanted to do the valley flashing and drip edge.  This is a piece of specialty flashing he made...

Out of our scrap plywood, Jim cut strips to use behind the rake boards to bring them out to the right position.

Then he started fastening them - not an easy task since he has to stand sideways on the roof!

I got to have my first experience drilling - I marked and predrilled the locations that Jim will use to fasten the boards.

For the tasks ahead, Jim needed his guide rope in place.  He had to climb up the roof...

...and attach it to the safety catch that is on the top of the roof.

With the rope in place, he was able to take down the old drip edge.

Putting the last piece of plywood up - this was the tough one since Jim really can't reach the top.

The guide rope gives Jim some leverage while he fastens the board through the sheathing and into the steel.

Cutting the right angle on our newly-painted rake boards...

Two cut pieces...Jim got the other front piece angle figured out and cut also.  We'll throw a little paint on the exposed edges tomorrow.
