4.19.2016

Jim had to start the day doing what he always feels is a waste of time - picking up supplies.  But definitely a necessary evil sometimes.

Jim had been looking for more storage cabinets and I happened to run across a used office supply store that had one in their back room.  Jim went and looked at it last week and picked it up this morning.  While it's empty in this picture, I already transferred things from another cabinet into this one.  Jim has a good plan for where he wants all his cabinets and what he wants in them!

Finally our steel came in for the stringers for the stairs going from the stairwell entrance up to the landing.  This is another project that we are really anxious to get underway.

Jim got back to the property and unloaded.  Then he started up the lawn mower and moved it outside so that he could change the oil.  I met him at the property and we ate lunch on the way to Lowe's to pick up some more lumber.  This is probably not how most people look for lumber at Lowe's!

Once we got back, we set up the lumber and I got busy painting again.

The rest of the day was working on rake boards.  Jim is putting up the plywood backing first.

Last piece of plywood...

Things are getting more difficult at this point - so time to put the harness on.  Jim had to do lots of adjustments - the last time he wore this he was wearing many layers and his coveralls!

In order to fasten the rake boards at the top, Jim needed to put another toe board at the very top of the stairwell roof.

It's difficult just trying to get all the necessary tools where they are accessible...

Standing on the peak fastening the tops of the boards...

Back on solid ground, Jim gets the painted rake boards marked and predrilled.

Putting the final board on the front section...

Fastening the board....

Time to work around the back side.  Even with one of his blocks up, it's really hard to get the board into position without it slipping down.

It's in place and Jim uses his clamp to hold it tight against the roof so he can get it fastened.

Next board....

Cutting the final rake board to size...

Trying to get the board and all the tools up to where they need to go!

Fastening the board in place...

Clamping the top of the board into place working on the very tip of the roof!  Jim is basically vertical on this peak trying to work.

Putting the final screws into the very top of the boards...

Success!  This is one of those jobs that Jim wasn't sure how he was going to accomplish.  What a relief to have this done for now!  Definitely two thumbs up!

End-of-the-day....the rake boards really add a nice finished look.

Not sure where he gets his energy, but at the very end of the day Jim finished changing the oil and filter on the lawn mower.
