4.12.2016

We had rain overnight but the skies brightened considerably mid-morning, although it was still chilly and breezy.

Jim worked first on wiring up the third light - all finished and working!

He also worked on more mounting pieces for the next lights as well as cutting the angle pieces for the next stair run.

After lunch, it was back on the roof.

The last pieces are done for this side!  There is still more work to be done for the ridge, ridge vent and the flashing but all that will need to be coordinated with other jobs.  For the moment, our goal of getting shingles on this front side is done.  Jim decided to leave the roof jacks up for awhile so he put little pieces of scrap shingle underneath the jacks so that they don't stain the shingles.

Jim did take the bottom roof jack off the auto bay roof.

Then it was scaffolding time.  This section was still up on the side from the roof work, so Jim took it down and moved it around the back.

Next, we took down the scaffolding in front of the auto bay and brought it to the back.  We're going to have two towers in the back so that Jim will be able to reach all the way across.

First step is the diverter - Jim had it made but needed to solder it.

First, Jim put down a little section of membrane to cover the metal drip edge so that the copper isn't touching any of the metal.

Putting on the diverter and first piece of step flashing.

First shingle!

Moving down the first row...

At this point, we called it quits for outside work.  The winds were really whipping and the wind chill was in the 30s.  We're in good shape to hit the ground running tomorrow!

Front view at the end of the day...nice to see the scaffolding down on the auto bay and two roof sections done on this side!

It was also clean-up day.  While Jim was measuring and getting ready for the back shingles, I started picking up some of our pile of discarded small pieces of wood.  Every piece of steel that we got sits on little blocks of wood.  They've accumulated and need to go at this point!  I filled up the back of the truck so it's a start.

Jim stayed after I left and worked on making copper drip edge for certain areas.  The drip edge has a lot of complicated bends and he wasn't sure he could do it, but it turned out beautifully!
