Jim was trying to come up with a way to get the wiring for the ceiling lights out through the wall and across the ceiling to the fixture. Since the ceiling is exposed, you have to have the wire in conduit. But it was difficult to come up with a way to make that work. Jim has spent time in the electrical aisle at Lowe's trying to come up with the right combination of fittings.
But he's got it figured out...this is the connection out from the box. He had to use his step drill to get the right size hole in the back of the box and then use this special connection. The conduit fits in...
...and goes up the wall (obviously this isn't the right size piece of conduit!) and to another connection that goes out the wall. He'll make another connection to get it up on the ceiling...
...where he made these brackets to hold the conduit. From there he will be able to get the conduit into the fixtures. Whew!
This is kind of a blurry close-up, but Jim got busy cutting the angle pieces for the stair risers. He has more work to do on them, but getting them cut to size is the first step!
Mid-afternoon the skies brightened and the rain stopped - which meant Jim could do some outside work. He wanted to get the fascia backing done on this front section while the scaffolding is still in place.
Making all the rafters meet at the exact same point on two sides with a hip is not easy! But Jim took such care with each one that he was able to get the fascia backing up.
This corner connection was especially difficult but it turned out perfectly.
After the fascia backing was all in place, Jim put the bottom clip angles on the rafters.
Finishing up - not quite the most stable working platform!
Just as Jim got done with all the clip angles, the rain started up again. It was very light and the sun was still out leading to this gorgeous double rainbow I spotted on my way home!
Just a minute later, the double rainbow was no longer visible but there sure was a pretty rainbow!
