He got all of the rafters for both the north and south sides of the auto bay roof all finished!
The longest rafter in this section is all done!
Jim finally got an email from the concrete contractor - he's available Friday and the weather looks perfect, so we're hoping all of that works out! We were getting kind of frustrated not hearing from him - we even contacted another person for an estimate. But hopefully all of this will work out.
So...once we knew that might happen Friday, that changed Jim's plans. He was going to continue putting up the rafters, although he was going to make a different step system. He said that leaning on the step while it was resting on the rafter caused a little bow at the end. He can fix it but was going to change the way he approached the next ones. However, it would be much, much easier and safer working on scaffolding from down below. Since we may pour concrete Friday, we could conceivably get scaffolding in there a few days later.
So he decided to start working on the design for the west side of the auto bay roof - of course, these angles are all different so it's basically starting from scratch.
Working on some angle measurements...
Then he went back into the clip angle manufacturing mode.
Ready for attaching to the wall!
About 5:00, just as Jim was getting ready to attach the clip angles, the winds kicked up and the skies darkened. We scrambled to get things put away and almost made it!
We definitely need the rain and we want it to get it all out of its system before Friday! We can't even remember the last time we had rain and thankfully we still got a good day's work in. In fact, Jim took the time to run down to the barn to get a few supplies.
