Today was all about window frames. First he put a piece of track next to the stud on both sides of the windows.
Then he puts another stud into the track - that makes one strong column that can carry the weight of header.
Working on the double window...
Next was the side frames of the windows.
Then what we refer to as the "seat" of the window - this fits on top of the side pieces with tabs that extend over the columns to again tie everything together.
Attaching the seat piece...
All the seats of the windows attached...
Finally as the afternoon wore on, the saw was in the shade!
Then another piece of steel is attached underneath the seat piece....
Working on the bedroom window...
...and the double living room window frame.
One last piece of the frames - another stud in the middle to support everything.
Finishing the last stud piece...
Because the wall is all open, the bracing we had was probably fine. However, sheathing is next and if a giant wind came up at the right angle, it's possible it could cause some damage. He came up with a better way to attach the brace to the nailer so that it is really strong.
Jim re-attached all of the braces to the nailers and added another brace to the wall.
At the end of the day after I left, Jim used the Bobcat to pick up the remaining pieces of sheathing and then put them up on the roof so that they are ready to be attached.
