8.31.2015

Today was a lot of window frame work - Jim worked first on making the framing for underneath the bathroom window.

Attaching the frame pieces to the studs...

...and then he added the top of the frame (which has all the tabs that connect to the studs and frame)0 and the small stud in between.

But then we decided to build the next section of the back wall so we got the studs all in place with their markings and Jim started assembling.

After he got the first side of this wall section done, we flipped it over and he screwed all the studs down to the track on the other side.

Then he fastened the blocks down to hold the wall once we set it up into place.

Perfectly straight and level!

Time to fasten the wall down to the deck.

The wall is all up - now for all the details that take so very long and require such precise fabrication!

The back of the carriage house looks mighty imposing!

In the afternoon, Jim spent a couple hours working on the headers for all four of the windows in this back wall.

Then he put them up on the deck ready to be attached.

This is where the scaffolding section on wheels really comes in handy!  Jim can attach the header much easier and it's definitely more stable than a ladder.

Working on the third header...

All four headers are done and assembled - and the wall is really looking good!  We can start to visualize what the rooms will look like now.

We did a little caulking of the end pieces where the roof rafters will come down before we put away all the tools that Jim used today and cleaned up for the night.
