8.14.2015

We thought we might get our cold-formed steel order today, but it didn't come - hopefully Monday.  Meanwhile, we pressed on.

Jim is attaching the strapping here and then finished attaching all the screws in this section.

Up on the deck cutting off the edges to make for a nice clean side to attach sheathing.

And doing the same for the front corner....

These were the first two pieces of sheathing we put up - and then kind of ignored them.  Since then, Jim has a good system figured out for how many nails he puts in and how he attaches the strapping.  Unfortunately, because these pieces weren't totally fastened down, they got warped from rain falling straight off the deck.

So it was time to tackle them today.  To make this job even harder, this front area requires working off ladders on a hill so getting the right amount of leverage to get all the screws in is really tough.

Jim eventually brought the Bobcat over and worked out of the bucket to try and get more leverage and a better angle.

Once Jim got it all fastened down, we cut more of our thick plastic to cover up these pieces temporarily to hopefully keep them a little more healthy.

All finished...

We then put up the next piece of sheathing on the side wall...this had to be put up from on top of the deck.

About this time of the afternoon, the beautiful blue skies turned gray and we got sprinkled on.  We would scramble to get things put away and then it would stop.  My weather app kept predicting thunderstorms which never really happened, but we would get a few quick showers here and there - just enough to make you wonder if you should stop or continue.

But press on we did.  Here Jim was measuring for the next piece of sheathing.  He wants to do more landing connection work above the door so the plan is to leave that part open for now.

Cutting to size...

And the next piece is in place.

Fastening it down - these pieces are the ones that take even more screws because of all the blocking on top.
