But first, he had lots more steel work to do. He had to build the ridge board that will support the other two rafters.
Making more angle pieces...
Assembling it all together...
Again...no pictures of actual installation but here are the first two rafters meeting in the middle - everything met perfectly!
Screwing it into place...
Next was to attach the ridge board - again, no small feat to make everything match up.
But you can tell from this angle that it came out textbook perfect!
Making sure the ridge board is level....
...and then attaching braces temporarily to hold it in place.
Looks great from down below too!
Time to make more rafters! Now that Jim knows that the design worked and his template fit perfectly, he had to make two more sets.
These are these very gauge steel but Jim hoists them on his shoulder and carries them down the hill.
I feel bad for Jim because he has to walk up this huge piece of steel by himself and set it into place - we definitely could use another man for this job! But he was thrilled with the way the clip angles worked on top of the wall - the rafter fit perfectly into it and really held it in place. I clamped the ends and then Jim put the top piece onto the ridge board.
Second rafter taking shape!
Working on the other side...
Then the next one is set in place...
...and its mate on the other side is in place too.
We are thrilled with the way it turned out - everything fit perfectly and we were able to get them all up without any issues.
