6.18.2018 - Pre-inspection inspection

Jim had talked to the building inspector and wanted him to come and do a pre-inspection inspection - basically Jim needed to know what he had to have before we get occupancy.  (Just the word occupancy gives me chills!)  You're at the mercy of the inspectors - he could come and start requiring Jim to do all kinds of things before he would give us occupancy - like tape all the drywall, finish the dormer window on the roof, doors on all the rooms in the apartment, and on and on.

We spiffied everything up this morning although everything already looked pretty spiffy!  Jim also put this section of drywall on over the corner where all the vents come out just to cover up the kraft paper.

It was mostly good news when he finally came - but it's kind of a toss up.  We don't have to do some things Jim was anticipating but we have to do others that he wasn't.  And weird things...like he said we can't have the handrails on the stairs end like they do.  He said Jim can connect them or turn them under and he doesn't care if Jim takes them off after occupancy.  Because I like them the way they are!

Another goofy one...Jim has to put drywall underneath the stairs because Jerry said it's required above a storage area.  That means drywall on both this section and the one underneath it (which will require Jim to lay on his back to do!).

Jim's going to talk to him more about this one but he said that Jim has to put up the wall in the metal shop before you get to the stairwell for a fire stop.  Jim had plans to do that but never thought he would have to do it now.

But on the plus side, no mention about taping drywall, finishing the roof/window, don't have to have room doors in the apartment.  Jim already knows the requirements for the kitchen (basic) and that we have to get the shower operational.

So it was a great meeting because now Jim knows where he has to focus his time.  We have to renew our permit the first week or so of July so we'll see.  But it's getting crazy exciting no matter what - occupancy is close!

Jim continued to work in the kitchen on the floor plus he got the dishwasher off the subfloor and onto the floor.  Unfortunately, he ran out of glue so I'll be making a trip to get a couple more tubes tomorrow.
