Jim is continuing to work on the tougher parts of the required occupancy points - like how are we going to get drywall underneath the lower stairs? On one side there is a metal flange - however, it's thick steel so it would be hard to screw through. But the other side, nothing. So Jim figured out a way - he made and installed these wood blocks to either side of the treads. That brings it out to the same plane as the steel. There are more steps to come but figuring out how to do something is always the hardest!
This handrail modification is totally done now - complete with coupler inside in case we ever need to take it apart. Looks fabulous!
Jim had to spend time today setting up his metal band saw - these pieces that he's making don't fit inside the normal set up of the machine so he had to take some parts off and improvise.
Now that he's too far from the welder, he had to get out his spool gun and get that working properly - including finding the roll of welding wire.
He also brought up his bench grinder and that's made things easier rather than using his hand grinder.
He started on the first steps of making the next modification - spot welding the parts on to work on exact lengths and placement.
All these different pieces and angles make this very complicated - everything has to be perfect in order for it to fit!
Doing some welding...
Time to move on to flooring in the second bedroom closet. All of these pieces have to be pre-drilled and hand nailed.
Putting on the last full piece...
Jim had to totally make a custom piece for the very last piece in the closet - including cutting the tongue and groove. A little black marker on the sides and it looks factory made!
Pre-drilling...
Fastening the last piece in. There's just one small piece left - Jim made that before he came home.
Then it was back into the kitchen. This is the last of the glue so Jim was only able to put a few pieces down. I'll be making a trip to Lowe's tomorrow.
High 61/Low 56 - light rain during the day which was needed! |
