We first got busy putting up the next piece of sheathing on the front.
Jim putting in all the screws...
Cutting out the window...
This will be my other kitchen window - another beautiful view! That will make doing dishes less of a chore!
After that, Jim wanted to put up a 3' strip of house wrap that will lap over the wrap that has been on this wall for awhile.
Plus, he taped over the top and bottom edges to try and keep water from running behind and finding its way inside.
The front wall is taking shape!
Then we broke into our big window stash to find the bathroom window! Jim really wants to get this window in while the scaffolding tower is there. He'll need some of those scaffolding parts and pieces to build the front sections higher to finish the wall.
What a pretty window! Love the color - you never know when you are picking it out from little swatches but it's perfect. Eldridge Gray.
As with everything we do, things are much different with the steel frame. Jim special-ordered these corner flashing pieces to make sure that water stays outside. Here he's stapling them on.
Corner flashing in place...
Next was more membrane - this is special flashing membrane so it's only 4" wide.
One more strip of membrane to seal everything.
Jim made 2 shims out of all the little pieces of pine that they use in our steel deliveries. The big pieces are what Jim uses for toe boards - nothing goes to waste here!
Shims all screwed in place.
Then it was time to install the window! Poor Jim was standing on a ladder on top of the scaffolding right against the wall trying to help hold it in place (I was holding it from the inside) and then trying to get enough leverage to fasten some screws to hold it! You can see from this picture that there is nothing for him to hold on to so it was tough. But it's in and looks amazing - our first window! Jim will have to finish up details tomorrow but we were very excited to see it in place!
