12.9.2015

There was no sun out this morning, so Jim got busy putting up the wall studs that he made last night.

Time to make the last two studs!

Using the scaffolding to be able to install the last studs...

This was a chilly morning to do steel work - after sitting out all night in freezing temperatures, the steel is frozen.  Working with fingerless gloves leaves a lot of Jim's hands exposed to the cold steel.

But the last stud is in place!  This is really the last piece of steel framing for the main structure.  We obviously have indoor framing to do as well as the stairwell section, but this is it for the main building!

We had hoped to do underlayment today but the morning remained cloudy.  It wasn't until after 1:00 that the sun finally made its appearance.  We put the pieces of membrane that I had cut yesterday out on the scaffolding to soften up a bit so they would stick.  But finally Jim was able to get started!

As much as we've been anxious to do this job, this is really one of the hardest jobs physically for Jim.  He has to do so much "mountain climbing" and perching on toe boards plus he has to be constantly moving.  Putting up sheathing is tough but at least once you get the piece up in place, you stay there for awhile working on screws.  Not so with underlayment.  Plus, the membrane is sticky and difficult to work with - but it makes for a great final product.

Getting ready to climb up and attach the next piece...

Finally on the top course of titanium!

The front of the building is all protected now!  Jim looks small up there but trust me, he looks relieved!

A great final product - we're thrilled to have this finished!

We got a lot done in a short time period.  There are still details that Jim will have to finish - here he's putting on the drip edge that he had made.  He'll have to go back and put the cap staples on and do the ridge vent area.  But the hard part is done!
