12.23.2015

Kyle and Julia left this morning - it was a fun visit and we so enjoyed seeing them.  We also enjoyed their help!

Lowe's called a little after 7:00 this morning and said they would be out to deliver our wood in about 30 minutes!  Everyone was just stirring so I asked if they could please wait until about 10:00 - which they said was fine.  So after Kyle and Julia left, we headed out.  It was a very foggy morning as you can see from the picture below!  But we got our plywood - this is actually what Lowe's owed us from our initial plywood delivery.  They had some kind of mix-up and didn't deliver the right number of sheets the first time.

After Lowe's left, Jim got busy working on putting up planks to bridge from the scaffolding tower to the roof of the auto bay.

He fastened the planks together as well as to the roof.

Then he was able to start working on the wall!  First step was to get the strapping on.  It was so good to fasten the top of the sheathing to the wall - this sheathing has been there for quite awhile!

It's really amazing to see Jim working on this wall.  This has been one of the projects that has been in the back of our minds for a long time - how would we ever be able to do this?  And here's Jim working away!

Cutting sheathing for the wall!

Jim put up the blocking on the outside and then we handed the piece of sheathing out through the wall.

It's in place!

Jim got the piece fastened down except for around the window - he still needed to put up the track pieces in this window.  Since he wasn't sure how the window installation would go, he didn't put track on all of them.

Standing on the edge fastening the track piece to the window frame...

My favorite - time for a ladder on top of the planks on top of the auto bay roof!

Once the sheathing was all fastened in place, it was time to cut the window out.  This was a big challenge because the scaffolding was in the way!  Jim was able to get one side and most of the bottom cut using the small saw - and standing precariously on various parts and pieces outside!

But then he had to try some more brute force methods.  First he tried one saw...

...and then he switched to another...

But finally he got the window cut out!

The next piece of sheathing was the little corner...

Fastening it down....

Then we got the next piece up between the two windows!

Wow - really looks amazing from down below as Jim works to get this piece fastened.  We are so thrilled that the plan worked and we are on our way towards getting this side sheathed!

In order to put the strapping on and finish the screws on the sheathing that was already on, Jim had to remove staples and peel back the house wrap.  So at the end of the day, Jim had to staple and tape the house wrap back in place.

We were so fortunate with the weather today but as we were starting to clean up, the rain began again.  Jim put some plastic over the window to try and divert water away from the inside.
