12.17.2015

Well...this was one of those days.  We've had lots of exciting, great progress days so we're bound to have a day like this every once in awhile.

Jim had a dentist appointment this morning (postponed about 4 times because of the continued good weather!) and then set off to do a few errands.  He went and paid for our roofing (gulp!) and stopped in the electric supply company to get a quote.

Our roofing was first scheduled to come today - then yesterday they called and moved it to Friday afternoon.  When Jim was in the store today, they said they could bring the roofing out after 1:00.  Jim got done with his errands and came home for lunch, then we headed out to the site to make sure we were open and ready by 1:00.

Then it started raining.  We were hoping to maybe do windows this afternoon but that wasn't to be.  Jim brought up more ceiling joists so we could get ready for those.

We have a pretty big stack of joists ready to go now.  The nice part of this is that even though it's raining, we can work inside!

The first thing Jim had to do for the ceiling joists was set up the laser level.

Once he figured out the right height, he marked each of the joists.

We then put up the first big one.  No pictures since I was on the ladder holding the tail end while Jim handled the rest from the scaffolding.  Again, this was kind of a modification from what we originally thought.  In some areas (living room and master bedroom) we thought we would like a higher ceiling so that's what these joists are.  You'll note how the joist attaches to the rafters on the front roof so that the load is carried that way as opposed to having it on a wall.

We had just gotten the first joist done when the roofing material came about 3:30.  It's hard to plan things to do when  you are expecting deliveries because they usually don't come when they say and you don't want to be in the middle of something precarious.  This worked out fine though.

The driver used him boom truck to move the pallets of roofing material from the truck to the yard.  Jim had him set them sort of in the middle so that he would be able to reach them from either driveway.

Another pallet in the air.  Obviously this picture was taken from inside the building looking out the window through all the scaffolding.  I'm no dummy - it was raining pretty good out there!

Our piles of roofing material!

Water...such a pain.  It's one thing going out the next morning after a rain and seeing a few puddles by the windows but it's another thing being there and having the rain come in.  We put up some temporary plastic on the front windows to try and diver the water.

We also discovered a few drips inside from the roof.  Obviously the underlayment we have is not supposed to be the final roofing material and water finds a way.  Again, kind of depressing.  The rain never really let up and it got too dark to see inside.

Tomorrow's another day to fight!
