12.11.2015

Today was our 26th wedding anniversary!  Kyle and Julia made a wonderful 2016 calendar for us using pictures from the blog.  For each month, they put a picture of what we did this year and where we were on this project last year or sometimes 2 years ago.  Really amazing to see how far we've come!

But it was business as usual so we got right to work.  Jim first worked on the power sprayer to get it running - it hadn't been used in quite awhile and our plans included using it today.  He got it running, so that was good.

Then it was back to roof work.  First task was to put the drip edge on the bottom of the newly-sheathed roof section.

Then it was time for the water and ice protection membrane.

Jim's working his way up the roof with the membrane.  It was a great day for membrane - it was sunny and warm enough for the membrane to be sticky but not so sticky that it's hard to work with.

Before lunch, we knocked off doing roof work and turned to clean up.  While the temperatures were still amazingly above normal, Jim wanted to power spray the walls in the shop.  They still have marks from the plywood mold issues as well as just discoloration from the water leaking through.  We pulled everything away from the walls so that he could spray.  Unfortunately, while the power sprayer worked, the handle didn't - it must have gotten frozen.  It would only work in one position - full speed.  Jim couldn't turn it off - the trigger on the handle just didn't function.  So it became much more of a messy operation - poor Jim was soaked by the time he got around the shop.  In fact, I went home at lunch and brought him dry clothes back.

After lunch, it was back working on the membrane.  Here Jim is putting membrane on the connection between the roof and the wall.

Membrane is all done - beautiful job!

House wrap time!

This side is pretty much all protected now - we just have the little piece of sheathing left on top.  But leaving that spot open made putting the sheathing, membrane and house wrap so much easier.

As the daylight left, Jim was busy doing roof details.  He got all of the staple caps put on the house wrap and the titanium underlayment on the front section.  Then he started working on drip edge.  Meanwhile, I was busy soaking up the water left behind in the steel tracks from our power spraying.  It's not supposed to freeze tonight, but standing water in the tracks isn't good no matter what.
