On Sunday, Jim did a few things after lunch in the shop, like put anothe coat of paint on the wood rack stops, but it was an on/off rainy day. Every time he started something outside, it rained. A little after 2:00, he decided to go get diesel fuel for the machines. He definitely had some divine intervention, because right after he left, we lost power. I texted him that we were on generator power. When he came home, he found out why - it had been very windy and blew a big tree down across the road and the wires were live. It happened right after he left - if that tree fell on the car, I can't even breathe to think about what could have happened.
He had to go around the block - when he did, he saw another tree had fallen around the corner on lines, and the top of the tree where it was on the wires was on fire. This is the view from the other side as he came home...
We were without power for over 5 hours. As our house is the last on this power line, we were the only ones affected.
We obviously lost internet too and were receiving text updates about the restoration of that from Spectrum. It kept shifting back in time and we continued to have no internet. I finally called them last evening and they sent out a technician today. Here's the reason we didn't have any cable - it was laying across the street in our neighbor's ditch!
In between the raindrops on Sunday, Jim replaced all the teeth in the excavator...
He had some trouble with a couple of them, but he finally got all the old pins out and the teeth replaced...
Jim also spent a lot of time bringing up all my empty dish tubs so that I could pack up the Depression glassware, and then he took those down and brought up my heavy fall dishes. It's a ton of work but it does look so seasonal in here and it was a good day to get it done.
On Monday morning, Jim had a doctor appointment down in Albany, so he left early and was gone all morning. Before heading outside after lunch, he put another coat of paint on the rack stops...
Before we get gravel on the driveway, Jim wants to get our stone wall started along the edges. So he started digging for that...
This afternoon, after dealing with Spectrum all morning, Jim doublechecked placement of the rock wall. We want it to be restored from its original position across the property...
Opening up the hole some...
Using the Bobcat to clean up the edges - he's using the dirt to continue to build up our shed area...
Jim went over to our big rock pile to pick out some that we wanted as the base of the wall...
These rocks are enormous!
Placing it in the bucket...
Over at the wall, he used the excavator's thumb to place the first rock...
Picking up the next one...
We placed them behind the big rocks to act as a good base for the next layer...
A good start!
Jim checking out the hole...
We've wanted this giant rock to be the starter sone so Jim tried to lift it with the excavator...
Took some work but he was able to scoot it over...
