12.5.2018

Jim worked on the conduit design for the wires in the metal shop this morning but then he headed out to the Drywall Center to pick up his still order.

After lunch, he started building our package box...

Using the grinder to cut off the flanges to make the bottom frame pieces...

Making sure he puts them in the right location...

Ta da!  The sides are done...

Then he added the other pieces for the bottom of the box.  The feet are wider than the box to add some stability and the box is 2' off the ground to keep it out of the snow!

Jim ordered his new big air compressor and it should be coming this week.  He had a big one in Ohio but sold it with the intention of getting another one here.  Before now, there wasn't room or power in the metal shop but we're getting close to that now so it's time.  And it's really time now because his small air compressor died and he's had to use the one in the wood shop and hang the line out the window when he needs to use it outside for barn work.  This morning, he totally dismantled that compressor and sorted the metals for recycling.

In order to get ready for the delivery, Jim needed to get the forks on the Bobcat.  Since he didn't get a concrete floor in the pole barn (or even gravel) the way he had planned, when he lifted up the bucket with the Bobcat, about 6" of frozen dirt came up along with it!  Jim had to use his spud bar to pry the dirt off the bottom of the bucket.

Once he had the Bobcat out, he did some flattening of the driveway.  Then he put the forks on and headed down to the box truck.  He rearranged some things and then put the concrete mixer (aka The Pumpkin) in the back of the truck.  He also drove the Bobcat to the bottom of the driveway and moved the stack of pallets (another Craigslist no show) out of the way and made space for the package box.  Before he came in for the day, he loaded some plywood that we had used to block off the metal shop area that first winter and brought it into the wood shop to make the box.
