12.3.2018

While the temperatures were a bit more friendly today, there was a very brisk wind so it didn't feel as warm as we had hoped today.  But Jim was determined, so headed out to work on the barn.  He got two more pieces up on the south side of the gable...

He then switched to the north side and started working on it.  Although you probably can't tell too much in the pictures, we had some discussion about the Z-channel on this side of the barn.  Jim had two pieces left over from our pole barn in Ohio which was also charcoal gray, so he figured he would use them to save a little money.  However, when he put it up, it was a bit darker than the rest of the siding.  No one would probably ever notice and we debated about what to do, especially if there was a long lead time to get another piece in.  However, Jim also needed one more piece of fascia siding for the back so he called the roofing company this morning.  Apparently, trim pieces don't have as long of lead time as the other siding so the pieces should come in at the end of the week.  So Jim is basically tacking the gable pieces into place now with a few screws; when the Z-channel comes in he'll be able to replace it without too much trouble.  Putting up the first piece...

The next piece was complicated to cut with multiple angles...

Putting it up into place...

Jim was able to use cut-offs from the south side to do the smaller pieces on this side - just a few more to go!

Another disappointing Craigslist sale - someone contacted Jim to buy the remainder of the roll of asphalt roofing material and they agreed on a time at the end of the work day.  Jim carried the roll down to the end of the driveway and then the guy never showed.  Frustrating.  Same with the 4Runner - however, Jim thinks he found a good buyer even though he can't come until the weekend.  We'll see how it all turns out!
High 44/Low 23 - windy
