7.8.2017

We got some good water news yesterday - we had a bottle to mail in for water testing.  This is not for the coliform bacteria that is required and is being done by the lab, but testing to see what minerals are in the water and its hardness.  When we first were able to get water from the well, we sent a bottle in, so it's nice to have the comparison after we have used the well and water.  The results came back great - no iron or copper and the water is on the lowest scale of hardness.

We have made a couple calls to water treatment companies locally to get the water tested also.  We have provisions if we need a water softener but want to get a few tests to make sure everything is consistent.  We have an appointment for Culligan to come out in a week or so.

Jim spent quite awhile again this morning on plumbing.  Once he knew where the leak was, he took that section all apart and redid it.  Finally...drumroll...no bubbles so no leaks!

We had picked up another piece of wood when we went to Lowe's, so Jim made upper blocking for the banquette seats.  This will allow him to put the insulation in this area.

He also decided to try out making box baffles in the bottom of the stairwell rafters so he got some pieces started.  He needs to pick up more rigid foam.

After lunch, it was back to siding.  I'm still on the inside handing tools and siding out to Jim.

Making good progress...

End-of-the-day siding picture...you can see that the area in between the bedroom and living room windows is all done.  It just needs the freeze board on top, which Jim isn't doing right now.  Plus we got started on the area to the left of the big living room window.  Since the other window isn't installed yet so that we can bring drywall though it, we can only go so far in this area.

So Jim put the starter strip on the remaining back section...

Getting it all fastened down.  Jim already has the flashing on both sides so we'll be able to get started with shingles in this area.

Jim had to spend a little time at the end of the day getting ready to move the band saw in the morning.  Finally!  It's crazy that it has taken this long to find someone to help Jim with this - the apartment maintenance guy promised to help and then never returned calls.  Jim asked one of the guys who lives here in the apartment a couple weeks ago and he never got back with Jim either.  But as fate would have it, they both pulled into the parking lot at the same time yesterday.  Jim wasn't going to bring it up, but the other guy asked if Jim still needed help - yes!  So it's scheduled for tomorrow morning.  Jim had to put the forks on the Bobcat and then get things strapped down.

The new power steering pump for the 4Runner came in so Jim spent a little time making sure things would fit and then taking the pulleys and various parts off the old one.  He'll clean them up before putting them on the new one but it's progress on that front too.
