Jim got busy installing more blocking today...this blocking goes between each of the dormer rafters. It's amazing how much stronger the rafters feel with the blocking.
This rafter is considered an end rafter because there will be a wall next to it. So Jim is putting more blocking in between, similar to what he did on the end rafters.
Fastening the blocking...
Then he moved on to blocking of the dormer rafters - each one will have blocking in the middle as well as on the wall.
Jim decided that he wanted to put one more dormer rafter as a support for the intersection of the valley rafters on the other side of the beam, so he made that this afternoon.
Putting up the clip angle for the new rafter...
Then attaching the new rafter into place. You can see from this picture that this new rafter will help balance the load from the valley rafters.
This is the baby blocking that Jim made to go in between the new and existing dormer rafters - that's going to be a tight fit to install!
The skies looked threatening and my weather app called for a spotty shower, so we decided to pack up a little early and head to church this evening.
