Jim started the day off by cutting the end rafters that go on top of the front wall. Then he put a temporary brace to help hold the rafter when we put it up.
It's up and in place!
Such a cool view looking up now...
Fastening the rafter into place at the bottom...
Then the end rafter has to be attached to the top track.
Next was installing the beam for this dormer section. Jim put the beam together on the deck yesterday but that made it incredibly heavy! I held my breath as Jim hoisted it up and got it up on the platform.
Then one side through the brace...
...and the other side on a temporary shelf he put up on the mounting plate.
Fastening it down to the mounting plate...
Ha - testing it out for strength! And a good test of Jim's flexibility!
Putting up a temporary brace for the next end rafter.
Wow - adding that ridge beam rally changes the look of the building!
Unfortunately, this is where the trouble started. Jim was just not happy with the fit of the next end rafter. He took the rafter up and down quite a few times before he got it to a point where it was acceptable.
Fastening it down at the top of the rafter...
Taking down the brackets...
Then Jim started working on more rafters for the front wall.
Installing the rafter...
Making sure things are level for the next rafter.
So at the end of the day, there were still lots of accomplishments to celebrate. But the stress of the issues takes its toll. Plus, darkness falls quickly now so Jim didn't get as much done as he would like. Tomorrow's another day!
