Today's task was to get the underlayment on the main rafter section that we have sheathed on the back of the building. This is a much steeper pitch than the shed dormer section but thankfully Jim has the scaffolding there to make the beginning easier. Jim also got a new, shorter lanyard to use with the rope on his harness. This made all the difference and made it much easier to use.
First step was to put the drip edge at the bottom. Jim tacked it on first with the stapler.
Our new stainless steel roofing nails came in yesterday so Jim used those to permanently attach the drip edge.
For this section, we will use the ice guard waterproofing membrane - the sticky kind.
I stayed inside the building and cut sections of the membrane for Jim and handed them out the window to him. Unfortunately, that meant that Jim had to basically rappel up and down the roof section all afternoon! It was tough because I couldn't see Jim or any of the progress so Jim took this picture from the scaffolding.
The main membrane is all attached!
Then Jim put membrane on the connection between the wall and the roof to seal it. After that was in place, it was time for house wrap.
Using the cap stapler to fasten the house wrap in place.
Last step was drip edge along the side of the roof.
Here Jim is attaching the drip edge to the little overhang - you can see the other side is already done.
All finished - another roof section basically safe for winter!
When Jim was sending me the pictures that he took today with his phone, he sent me this one too. This was taken when he was on the ridge of the roof (and there was no sheathing yet!) - it was just too pretty not to post!
Kyle and Julia are coming tonight for the weekend - we're excited to see them! Plus, Jim has some roof sheathing in store for Kyle to help him with!
