11.4.2015

Today was another beautiful day, so Jim took advantage of it and was out bright and early installing the rafters that he built last night.

Then he started working on the window frames.

Making studs seems easy compared to the complicated rafters Jim has been building so long!  Here he is installing another on the side wall.

...and the last little rafter in the corner.  Jim certainly has to squish himself to get in position to get this stud screwed down!

Then Jim spent awhile completing all the connections on this back wall - when he first put the wall up, he puts in enough screws to hold things in place so that he can move on.  But eventually you have to go back and complete it all.  Once he got all the fastening done, he was able to remove the final brace on this wall.

Then it was time to make the next window frame - these have so many individual pieces that fit together to make an incredibly strong frame.

Putting the stud in on top of the window frame...

...and once again squishing down to put the little rafter in place.

This wall is all built except for one small stud underneath one of the windows - Jim ran out of studs!  He's got another steel order in and studs are stock items so he'll get more when he picks up the next order.

He used the remaining daylight to work on putting the rest of the screws in the rafter/beam connections.

All of the walls in the main apartment structure are now built!

After it got too dark to work, Jim went into the shop and started making blocking.  That is the next task on the agenda.
