5.19.2017

We had some storms roll through the area last night - in preparation for that, Jim had built up more dirt piles around the open area behind the stairwell to keep water out.  We did have quite a bit of rain at the apartment and there were even severe storms with damage the next town over, but you can see that the soil showed no real signs of rain at the property!

Jim worked in the utility room this morning and actually started working with our first roll of Pex plumbing tubing!

He brought the tubing up into the bathroom, then used some Pex hangers and special elbow attachments...

and then brought it up into the shower wall and attached it to the shower head connection!  Of course, in order to do that he had to make and install more blocking.

This afternoon, we were back in the trenches!  Jim shoveled dirt onto the sand...

Before we totally filled in this area, Jim was curious to see if he could find the connection to the lawn hydrant.  When we pulled it out, it broke at one end of the connection and pulled the hose clamp off.  So he brought over the excavator and dug in the area...

And he found it!  Not much to reuse except the hose clamp, but Jim was just curious to see exactly what had happened to it so he was happy to find it.

Then we started filling in, with me down in the trench on rock duty.

We needed more sand, so Jim was scraping up the last of one of our sand piles.  When the sand was delivered, Jim had a tarp down underneath.  The tarp is now in shreds that we had to pick out of the sand!

We got the hydrant all set - lots of gravel around the base for drainage.

Funny little creature down in the trench with me!

Shoveling some dirt around the base of the hydrant...

Jim wanted to make sure the open end of conduit for the pump wires was totally encased in sand, so he piled lots more around the well.

Doing the final fill-in...

It's rough graded but the trench is all filled in now!
