5.23.2017 - Porthole window in!

Jim worked on Pex again this morning - including making a trip to the plumbing supply company at lunchtime.

He brought up more Pex and got it fastened to the ceiling...

...and attached the kitchen line across the ceiling...

This is the area that he redid today.  Because the Pex has to go over the trusses, it didn't lay flat enough with just the brackets that he first used.  He attached plywood to the brackets and then attached the Pex to that - works really nice.

We moved outside again this afternoon.  First, Jim gathered up our chipping mulch.

Then spread it over the corner of the stairwell where we will start working.  This will keep mud from splashing onto the house if it rains as well as making a nice base.

Been quite awhile since we did scaffolding work.  But the scaffolding behind the auto bay is coming down!

Rebuilding it up front...

Once the scaffolding was set, the first job was to install the porthole window.  Jim had already had the window size transferred to the house wrap so he just cut around the edges.

He got to try out his new jigsaw to cut out the opening in the sheathing.

It's out!

Nice hole in the stairwell now!

Jim unwrapped the window and then pulled all the flanges out.

Putting the window in...

It's in place!

Fastening the window to the wall.  You can see that for the top half of the window, Jim cut and brought the house wrap on top of the flanges to keep water from ever getting behind the flanges.  On the bottom half, the flanges went over the house wrap.

The view from inside the stairwell!  It's amazing how much light it brings inside.

Flashing with Zip tape was next.  We cut small pieces that Jim overlapped around the entire window.

Once the flashing was done, Jim had to remark all the stud positions.

He cut a piece from the window cut out to use as a template for the curve.

It was getting late in the day and it took awhile to gather all the tools and shingles again, but Jim wanted to try a couple pieces of siding.

Using his shear to cut the curve...

Trying it out for size...

We love the way the window looks - it will be exciting to start working on siding again!
